2018 Home Decorating Trends
I’ve been so excited to receive some fabulous guest posts lately on home decorating, as that’s what I’ll be doing really soon. And it’s not exactly my forte so I need all the help I can get.
The contributed post below contains some up-to-date home decorating trends which can add some fun aspects to your daily life. I’m glad to see some colour is becoming trendy again. Neutrals are not exactly my cup of tea. Oh, and I particularly love the last line in the last paragraph and so I decided to place it in bold.
2018 Interior Design Trends
Many would agree with the phrase “my home is my castle”, and that makes sense on the basis of how much time we actually spend in our home.
As we approach the new year, it’s important to take stock of your goals, but one goal that is often overlooked or at least pushed to the backburner is that of having a beautiful home. Whilst Christmas leaves many of us with a financial hangover, now is a great time to snap up bargains and consider looking at aesthetic upgrades such as the furniture within your home.
This article explores some of the most popular trends we can expect to see in 2018… but in all honesty, particular as a busy mother, it can be very time consuming and expensive to always stay on trend, and when it comes furniture fashion is always changing.
However, by collecting a few well built timeless classics, or items of luxury Italian furniture, you’re able to make investments that will transcend the fashion fads of the moment.
HERRINGBONE PARQUET FLOOR
Many people are desperate for herringbone parquet flooring, consider it to be utterly gorgeous, plus unlike dark wood flooring that shows up every single piece of fluff (particularly annoying if you have malting pets) it’s almost impossible to keep looking clean. White floorboards are starting to go out of fashion, mostly due to popularity weaning as a result of how hard it is to keep them looking pristine. Herringbone parquet flooring, on the other hand, offers a natural wood finish with the benefit of adding a pattern to the floor; but most of all, this is a classic look that never really dates.
BIG BRIGHT RUGS
Natural fibre rugs and solid color statement pieces are classics, but a trend we’ve seen this year is for interior professionals to liven up a space with rich, saturated colours, that are either positioned on the floor or even hung on the wall.
ANIMAL SKINS
Whilst not everyone’s cup of tea, and certainly with a plethora of ethical considerations, real and faux leather hides are being used to add texture and depth to the room. In particular, the trend is leaning toward deer hide, water buffalo and even crocodile. Whilst this decor won’t be to everyone’s taste, if this is up your street, it’s likely to remain a consistent choice irrespective of passing fads.
GALLERY STYLE WALLS
Think of an understated minimalist art gallery, with white washed walls, and one prominent (usually quite large) piece of art hung in the centre of the wall. Now, compare this to the cluttered curation of most homes that are way too busy and chaotic to feel the serenity one wishes to feel upon entering an art gallery.
Essentially, the trend is to declutter your walls and have one prominent piece of art in order to make one bold and congruent statement.
Hopefully, these trends have offered some inspiration in terms of what we have seen coming up in the past year, and those that will expand into the next.
The best advice, when it comes to offering a golden rule for selecting furniture, is to pick items you love and not worry so much about trends and curation… go with your heart, and make sure that every piece of furniture in your home, is one that you personally love.
What’s your home decor like? Is it trendy or have you just gone with your own personal sense of style?
