4 Signs That Tell You Your Boiler Needs Repair

Home Boiler Repair

A home needs constant upkeep, doesn’t it?  And the last thing you want over the upcoming festive season, if you’re living in the Northern hemisphere, is for your central heating system to go on the blink during the holidays.

Here are some signs you will want to look out for now.  Prevention is better than cure.   #HomeBoilerRepair

4 Signs That Tell You Your Boiler Needs Repair

Your central heating system is a critical component as it provides essential heat and hot water and should the boiler develop an issue, there are tell-tale signs.

The inclement weather we have in the UK puts even more of a demand on the central heating system, which does require regular maintenance if it is to perform as it should all year round. If you are unsure about the state of health of your boiler, here are a few signs that you need to call a service engineer.

The last thing you want is for your central heating system to go on the blink during the holidays.  Here are the signs to look out for.  #HomeBoilerRepair1. Yellow Flame

This is an indication of carbon monoxide in the air, which can be lethal.

Should you notice the flame has become yellow rather than blue, call in your local Worcester Bosch boiler service and repairs, who can diagnose and carry out any necessary repairs.

If you or any member of your family feel nauseous, it could be due to excessive levels of carbon monoxide, and in such a case, call out your local boiler servicing company as soon as possible.

2. Poor Heating Performance

If you have noticed it takes longer to heat the house, this could be a sign that your boiler needs repairing. This might be coupled with higher energy bills, as an inefficient boiler will use more energy to achieve the desired level of heat.

Rather than forgetting about it, you should make contact with a local boiler repair company, who can quickly pinpoint the cause. The Internet is always a good source of information and a localised Google search will put you in touch with an established firm who can come and inspect the system.

3. Strange Noises

If you hear strange knocking sounds, this could be caused by an air blockage or a malfunctioning water pump.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking it doesn’t matter and will eventually right itself, as a noisy hot water system is usually an indication of boiler or burning issues.

It is always a good idea to have your central heating system serviced – something that should happen just before winter sets in. Preventative maintenance will prolong the life of your central heating system, so make sure you include this in your list of home maintenance tasks.

4. Increase In Energy Use

This is always an indication of a boiler issue and should be investigated at once. The thermostat might be compromised, causing the boiler to fire when it isn’t needed, or the boiler could be burning a too rich mixture, either way, it needs to be addressed.

You can usually hear the boiler fire up and if this is becoming more frequent than normal, it is time to have the boiler serviced and while the technician is there, ask him to inspect the entire central heating system, which could have airlocks or leaking pipes.

Like the other systems in your home, your heating and hot water require regular servicing, but even then, it is possible for something to go wrong. If you experience any of the above issues, call out your local central heating repair company, who will soon find the fault and carry out effective repairs.

It’s good to know that a sign of needing repairs is if your home takes longer to heat. Recently my husband and I have started using our boiler since it has been getting colder outside, and we noticed how it’s taking a while to heat up our home and we were wondering if that was a bad sign. We’ll have to look into hiring a professional that can come and repair it for us as soon as possible.

I’m glad you mentioned that strange knocking sounds could be indicative of a problem with your boiler. Yesterday, as I was organizing some boxes in the basement, I noticed some strange noises coming from the utility room. I will find a plumber in my area later today so we can figure out what the issue is.

That’s good to know that if your house takes longer to heat up that your boiler may have a problem. This is helpful since it’s been taking a lot longer to warm up my house than previously and I’m trying to figure out why. I’ll have to call a repairman that can look at my boiler to see what’s causing the problem so I can have a warmer house a lot sooner.

Thanks for the heads up that hearing a strange knocking sound from a noisy water heater means that it has boiler or burning issues. If, for example, this happened while I am taking a hot tub bath with my sister at her house, I would call a heating contractor as soon as possible. That way, they can help prevent it from breaking down entirely. This, in turn, will help keep her home warm and cozy for her family and future guests.

I find it scary when you said that a homeowner should call a professional right away once their boiler flame changes from blue to yellow. As you mentioned that this sign indicates the presence of carbon monoxide, I will keep your advice to mind and share this to my neighbors and friends. As early as now, we will also ask for recommendations from around town, so that we can get our boiler repairs to keep our indoor air safe.

Upon stating that yellow flames are a sign of a boiler that needs to be repaired, I thought that it might need to be retubed as well. It may also be because of poor heating performance as you stated which might be the effect of worn tubes. I do agree that the increase in energy use as you stated is a sign that it needs repair so I’ll make sure that I get the contractor I can afford who has great service.

Stating that strange noises that are coming from my boiler recently do seem weird so I might have this fixed once I find someone soon.
