Baby Nursery Ideas
Has your nesting instinct kicked in yet? Are you about to start designing the perfect baby nursery? Need some fabulous ideas?
Sadly, I missed the opportunity to create a nursery for my little guy. Such a very special rite of passage, isn’t it? Such fun!
However, if we’d had a baby nursery we may not have enjoyed these 4 gorgeous cosleeping years. So there is a very precious silver lining.
I’m going to put the wonderful ideas in this contributed post to use when I design my son’s first bedroom. Our building plans have just been approved by Council, we’ll be breaking ground in the New Year. Exciting times ahead!
Nursery Ideas for the Interior Design-Conscious Parent
If you are a lover of interior design, you will want your nursery to match the style of the rest of your home.
Of course, you will also want the room to be practical and safe as well.
There are plenty of ways that you can marry all of these concepts together in harmony with a little bit of forethought and planning.
So, you should look online at the range of different options that are out there as well as visiting showrooms such as World of Renovation.
Here, we will examine just a few of the main design ideas that you can look to include in your child’s nursery.
Grey Background, Colourful Features
Blue and pink have been hugely overused in nurseries for years, so if you are looking for a colour that is both timeless and modern, grey is a nice option.
It doesn’t have to be drab as you can layer it up with any bold accent shade and also layer on a range of different patterns.
Some perfect places to include bold shades and patterns include a mural wall, upholstery or an area rug.
Add Some Motion
As well as colour, movement has shown to be another great way to stimulate the cerebral development of children.
So, as well as traditional mobiles above the crib, you can also add some movement with a contemporary hanging chair or a rocker.
Design a Growing Nursery
We all know how quickly babies grow up, so you are best off choosing a design and furniture that will stand the test of time.
A lot of modular furniture can be used beyond the first year. Certain cribs can be converted into children’s beds, and you can buy changing tables that are just regular dressers with a detachable top.
Many toys such as rocking horses are designed to be played with for years.
Don’t Forget About Yourself
Obviously, the baby will spend a huge amount of time in their nursery, but so will you.
So, you should add in a design element or two to make yourself feel comfortable.
The most important one is a nice comfortable sofa so you can enjoy naptime along with your baby!
Plenty of Storage Space
You will probably be amazed by just how many things someone so small could need, but a good amount of storage space will make the battle of clearing up after them so much easier.
A combination of cabinets, baskets and drawers will help you keep clutter at bay. Modern open storage is ideal for the design-conscious parent as it will allow you to display everything attractively.
There you have it – five modern design ideas to incorporate into the nursery room of your child.
In essence, you are trying to create a room that is both attractive and practical.
Try to choose durable and washable fabrics where possible, and allow for plenty of floor space for when the baby gets a little more mobile.
